Joby Aviation Amplifies Presence in Ohio with Significant Factory Expansion

Joby Aviation, the trailblazer in electric air taxi development, has recently acquired a colossal 700,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Dayton, Ohio. This acquisition signifies a major expansion, propelling the company further in its race towards commercial operations.

The California-based company made the announcement on January 7, 2026. The new facility will bolster its ambitious plan to double production to four aircraft per month by 2027. Operations at the site are expected to commence this year. This acquisition represents more than a doubling of Joby’s manufacturing footprint, instilling growing confidence in the advanced air mobility sector.

“This site will not only support our near-term plan to double production, but it can also serve as a base for significant future growth. We aim to transform a decade of engineering into the manufacturing scale the market is now demanding,” said JoeBen Bevirt, founder and CEO of Joby Aviation. The facility complements Joby’s existing production sites in Marina, California, and its current Dayton operation.

The expansion comes amid significant policy momentum for the eVTOL industry. U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy recently announced a national strategy for advanced air mobility. The Federal Aviation Administration is also preparing to deploy the eVTOL Integration Pilot Program in 2026, providing a clear regulatory pathway for commercial operations.

Joby has received substantial backing, including a whopping $894 million from Toyota, to support its manufacturing scale-up. The company is now in a race against competitors to secure FAA certification for commercial passenger service.
