Joby Aviation Amplifies Presence in Ohio with Additional Manufacturing Plant
Joby Aviation, a leading developer of electric air taxis, has significantly expanded its production capabilities with the acquisition of a colossal 700,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Dayton, Ohio. This move comes as the company gears up for commercial operations.
The California-based company made the announcement on January 7, 2026, stating that the new Vandalia facility is primed for immediate use. The factory is set to bolster Joby’s plans to double production to four aircraft per month by 2027, while also paving the way for substantial future growth. This new addition complements Joby’s existing production facilities in Marina, California, and its inaugural Ohio location.
“This site will not only support our near-term plan to double production, but it can also serve as a base for significant future growth, as we turn a decade of engineering into the manufacturing scale the market is now demanding,” said JoeBen Bevirt, founder and CEO of Joby Aviation.
The expansion aligns with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s national strategy for integrating electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. The Federal Aviation Administration is preparing to launch its eVTOL Integration Pilot Program later in 2026. Joby has received a whopping $894 million from Toyota to support production of its electric air taxis. The company has plans to operate these taxis for commercial passenger service in cities worldwide.
