Walmart Welcomes Tech Veteran to Board, Setting Sights on AI-Driven Future

On January 8, 2026, Walmart Inc. publicly announced the immediate appointment of Shishir Mehrotra, current Chief Executive Officer at Superhuman (formerly Grammarly), to its Board of Directors. This strategic move underscores Walmart’s ongoing dedication to its “people-led, tech-powered” strategy.

Mehrotra, a seasoned technology expert with a career spanning 25 years, brings a wealth of experience in developing category-defining platforms. Before his tenure at Superhuman, he held the position of CEO and co-founder at Coda, an AI and productivity platform catering to millions of users. Prior to this, he played a pivotal role at YouTube as the Chief Product Officer and Chief Technology Officer, where he was instrumental in transforming the platform into the world’s premier video destination.

Greg Penner, chairman of Walmart’s Board, praised Mehrotra’s unique blend of technical expertise and product leadership. “Shishir brings a rare combination of technical depth and product leadership,” he said. Mehrotra will serve on the Board’s Compensation and Management Development Committee and the Technology and eCommerce Committee.

Walmart, boasting $681 billion in fiscal 2025 revenue and a global team of approximately 2.1 million associates, is positioning itself for a future powered by “agentic AI”. The company is actively seeking to boost its digital capabilities, and Mehrotra’s appointment is a clear signal of this intent.
