SoftBank Boosts AI Infrastructure with $4B DigitalBridge Acquisition
SoftBank Group announced on December 29, 2025, that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire DigitalBridge Group, a leading global alternative asset manager dedicated to digital infrastructure, for a total enterprise value of approximately $4 billion. This transaction signifies a major expansion of SoftBank’s AI capabilities and infrastructure portfolio.
As per the agreement, SoftBank will acquire all outstanding common stock of DigitalBridge for $16.00 per share in cash, representing a 15% premium to DigitalBridge’s closing share price on December 26, 2025. DigitalBridge manages approximately $108 billion in assets under management as of September 2025, specializing in:
- Data centers
- Cell towers
- Fiber networks
- Edge infrastructure
“As AI transforms industries worldwide, we need more compute, connectivity, power, and scalable infrastructure,” said Masayoshi Son, Chairman and CEO of SoftBank Group. The acquisition aligns with SoftBank’s mission to realize Artificial Super Intelligence (ASI) and strengthen its position in next-generation AI data centers. The transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions.
