Revolutionize Your Skin with Vitamin C, Reveals a New Study
A groundbreaking study from the University of Otago has discovered that consuming vitamin C-rich foods like kiwifruit can physically transform your skin from the inside out. The research, published on December 26, 2024, reveals that vitamin C from food travels through the bloodstream into every layer of skin, boosting collagen production and skin renewal.
The study included two phases:
- Examining the relationship between plasma and skin vitamin C levels using healthy skin tissue
- A controlled dietary intervention
Participants who ate two vitamin C-packed kiwifruit daily showed significantly thicker, healthier skin. Scientists found that skin cells are highly efficient at absorbing vitamin C from the blood, with uptake into the outer epidermal layer appearing to be a priority.
While vitamin C is commonly added to skincare products, it dissolves easily in water and doesn’t absorb well through the outer skin barrier. This research suggests that eating vitamin C-rich foods may be more effective than topical application, proving that glowing skin really does start from within. The research was funded by New Zealand company Zespri International along with a University of Otago Research Grant.
