Bombardier’s Global 8000: The World’s Fastest Business Jet Earns FAA Certification
Bombardier proudly announced a significant milestone on December 19, 2024. Its ultra-long-range Global 8000 business jet has received certification from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This achievement cements its status as “the world’s fastest business aircraft.”
The Global 8000 is not just fast, but it also boasts impressive features that set it apart in the aviation industry. These include:
- A maximum speed of Mach 0.95—approximately 729 miles per hour—making it the fastest civilian aircraft since the Concorde.
- An impressive range of 8,000 nautical miles.
- The lowest cabin altitude in business aviation production at just 2,691 feet while cruising at 41,000 feet. This significantly reduced cabin altitude helps minimize physiological stress associated with high-altitude travel, allowing passengers to arrive feeling refreshed and alert.
Stephen McCullough, Senior Vice President of Engineering and Product Development at Bombardier, expressed his pride in the achievement. “Attaining the Global 8000 certification from the FAA sets new performance standards in the industry and marks one of the final chapters in our very successful development program for this groundbreaking business jet,” he said.
The aircraft previously received Transport Canada Type Certification on November 5, 2024, and entered service in December. The first delivery was made to Canadian businessman Patrick Dovigi on December 8. However, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) certification is still pending.
