Brazil Celebrates Historic Tourism Milestone with 9 Million Visitors in 2025

Brazil has achieved an unprecedented tourism milestone, welcoming 9 million international visitors in 2025, shattering its previous record of 6.77 million set in 2024. This remarkable 40% increase represents a historic achievement for South America’s largest nation and significantly exceeds the 6.9 million target established in the country’s 2024-2027 National Tourism Plan.

From January to November 2025, international tourists contributed $7.17 billion to Brazil’s economy, marking an 8.41% increase compared to the same period last year. The leading source markets were:

  • Argentina with 3.1 million visitors—an extraordinary 82.1% increase
  • Chile with 721,497 tourists
  • The United States with 677,888 visitors

Marcelo Freixo, president of Embratur, Brazil’s tourism promotion agency, attributed the success to improved international positioning and strategic marketing focused on priority markets. The tourism boom has created significant economic benefits across all regions, generating jobs and income while reinforcing tourism as a major driver of Brazil’s economy. Officials project continued growth for summer 2026, supported by expanded international air routes and increased connectivity to destinations like Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.
