SilverLight Aviation Unveils Groundbreaking Gyroplane Warning System
SilverLight Aviation has made a significant announcement: its Gyroplane Warning System (GWS) is now a standard feature on the American Ranger 1 (AR-1) gyroplane. This makes it the first production gyroplane to incorporate this advanced safety technology as a standard feature.
The system, a brainchild of Mike Goodrich and Mark Burton from Smart Avionics in the UK, offers audible warnings for hazardous flight conditions that are common to gyroplanes. These include:
- Stick position
- Behind the curve
- Max power descending
- Low G bunting risk
As per the company’s president and founder, Abid Farooqui, the system provides trained pilots with timely warnings to rectify potentially dangerous trends.
In addition to the warnings, the GWS also serves as a flight data recorder, logging crucial flight parameters such as attitude, G load, rotor RPM, airspeed, and altitude of the gyroplane. “It’s akin to a black box,” Farooqui elucidated, highlighting that the system can generate graphs depicting exactly what transpired during incidents, independent of pilot recollection.
The American Ranger 1, manufactured in Zephyrhills, Florida, comes with a variety of Rotax engine options, ranging from 100 to 141 horsepower. The aircraft only requires a Sport Pilot license to operate.
