Iceland Reigns Supreme in 2025 Travel Safety Index; France Slips to 80th
Iceland continues to hold its position at the pinnacle of the 2025 Travel Safety Index compiled by HelloSafe. It retains its crown as the world’s safest travel destination. The exhaustive ranking scrutinized 180 countries, based on 35 parameters such as crime rates, healthcare quality, political stability, and risks of natural disasters.
Securing the second and third spots are Singapore and Denmark respectively. Both nations owe their high rankings to robust healthcare systems, low crime rates, and political stability. Singapore’s stringent stance on crime and its advanced healthcare system played a significant role in its high ranking.
On the other hand, traditional tourist hotspots like France and Italy didn’t fare well in the safety rankings. France plummeted to the 80th position globally and 34th in Europe, grappling with social unrest, threats of terrorism, and extreme summer weather due to climate change. Italy, ranking 33rd in Europe, faced similar challenges that negatively impacted its safety scores.
Emerging destinations demonstrated a strong performance. Bhutan secured the 11th spot globally, thanks to its political stability and well-regulated tourism sector. Qatar held onto its 12th position, making it one of the safest countries for international travelers.
