Remembering Sheltair Aviation’s Visionary Founder, Jerry Holland

Jerry Holland, the pioneering founder of Sheltair Aviation, passed away peacefully at his home on November 18, 2024, at the age of 90. Holland, who revolutionized the aviation industry, transformed Sheltair from a single FBO into the nation’s largest privately-owned aviation network.

Today, Sheltair spans 16 locations across four states and manages over 4.6 million square feet of real estate. Holland’s journey began in 1963 as a fresh U.S. Air Force graduate who owned a construction business. His entry into aviation came in 1983 when he acquired hangars at Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport.

Known as a “simple man with a big vision”, Holland’s philosophy, combined with his values of integrity and service, established a family-first culture that remains central to Sheltair’s identity today. The company continues to thrive under the leadership of his daughter, Lisa Holland, who serves as President and CEO.

Holland was known for his constant question to his leaders, “Are you building and growing?” This philosophy drove continuous expansion and innovation throughout his career.

The passing of Jerry Holland marks the end of an era in general aviation. However, his legacy will continue to influence the industry through the thriving business he built and the thousands of aviation professionals he inspired.
