Pipistrel’s Electric Aircrafts Earn Certification for Canadian Operations
Pipistrel, a subsidiary of Textron Inc., has announced that Transport Canada has validated the type certificates for its Velis Electro, Velis Club, and Explorer aircraft. This significant milestone paves the way for Canadian operators to purchase and fly these innovative aircraft, thereby opening up new opportunities for flight schools across the country.
The Velis Electro stands out as the world’s first type-certified electric aircraft. It produces a mere 60 decibels of noise while generating zero emissions during operation. The aircraft presents flight schools with a lower-cost, environmentally friendly alternative for pilot training. It boasts a flight endurance of 56 minutes and a cruise speed of 88 knots.
Gabriel Massey, President and Managing Director of Pipistrel, expressed that “this validation not only strengthens our position in the Canadian market, but also significantly enhances flight training capabilities across the country.” The Explorer and Velis Club models complement the electric aircraft by providing versatile options for day and night VFR operations, glider towing, and general aviation activities.
