Qantas Unveils Ultra-Long-Range A350 for Groundbreaking 22-Hour Flights
Qantas has recently reached a significant milestone for Project Sunrise, unveiling the first images of its Airbus A350-1000ULR aircraft in the assembly process at the Toulouse line. This ultra-long-range aircraft is set to revolutionize commercial flights, offering non-stop connections from Sydney and Melbourne to London and New York for up to an astounding 22 hours.
The specially designed aircraft boasts an additional 20,000-liter fuel tank and a seating capacity for 238 passengers, a notable decrease from the typical 300+ configuration. This design allows for an optimized balance between fuel efficiency and passenger comfort.
Key structural components such as fuselage sections, wings, and landing gear have already been attached, with the next step being engine installation. The first aircraft is slated for delivery in late 2026, with commercial Project Sunrise flights expected to commence in the first half of 2027.
“This project will fundamentally change the way our customers travel the world,” stated Qantas CEO Vanessa Hudson. The new aircraft will significantly reduce journey times, cutting up to four hours off the current flight durations.
