Boeing Finalizes Monumental $10.55B Sale of ForeFlight & Jeppesen to Thoma Bravo
Boeing has successfully completed its massive $10.55 billion divestiture of key Digital Aviation Solutions assets to private equity firm Thoma Bravo. This marks a significant shift in the aviation technology landscape. The all-cash transaction, finalized on November 3, 2024, includes the sale of popular flight planning applications such as ForeFlight, Jeppesen, AerData, and OzRunways.
The sale encompasses approximately 3,900 employees who were part of Boeing’s Digital Aviation Solutions organization. This strategic move is designed to help Boeing strengthen its capital structure and reduce its substantial $53 billion debt load. It also allows the aerospace giant to focus on its core aircraft manufacturing business.
Thoma Bravo, a firm managing over $179 billion in assets, plans to build on the nearly century-long legacy of these aviation software platforms. The transaction represents one of the largest tech acquisitions in aviation history. It is expected to provide continuity for millions of pilots who rely on these flight planning tools daily.
