Google and Anthropic Ink Historic Billion-Dollar TPU Agreement

In a landmark move for AI infrastructure, Google and Anthropic have officially unveiled their cloud partnership on October 23, 2025. This deal grants the creators of Claude AI access to as many as one million of Google’s bespoke Tensor Processing Units (TPUs), making it one of the most substantial hardware commitments in the history of AI.

The contract, valued at a staggering tens of billions of dollars, is set to add over a gigawatt of compute capacity by 2026. This will bolster Anthropic’s burgeoning annual revenue of $7 billion. Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian stated, “Anthropic’s decision to significantly increase its use of TPUs is a testament to the superior price-performance and efficiency its teams have experienced with TPUs over the past few years.”

This partnership is an extension of Google’s existing $3 billion investment in Anthropic. It showcases the company’s multi-cloud strategy, which also includes a relationship with Amazon Web Services. The deal is announced in the wake of the Claude Code, Anthropic’s coding assistant, generating an impressive $500 million in annualized revenue within a mere two months of its launch.
