Indian Solo Travel Skyrockets, Surpassing Global Average by 33% in 2025

A groundbreaking shift in Indian travel patterns has emerged, with one-third of Indian travelers planning solo leisure trips next year, significantly outpacing the global average of 26%. This dramatic change challenges traditional perceptions of Indian family-centered travel culture, according to new data from global hotel chain Hilton shared exclusively with Skift.

The survey reveals that 66% of Indian respondents add solo traveling days to their family itineraries, compared to just 48% globally. Over 50% of Indians also seek quiet moments alone when traveling in groups, indicating a growing desire for personal relaxation alongside family bonding.

“Indians are redefining what leisure travel means to them. They’re not ditching their families, but they’re also attuned to their needs for time alone to relax,” the report states.

Despite this trend toward independence, 70% of Indian travelers still prioritize family time over personal relaxation during vacations.

This significant shift reflects changing attitudes toward travel among India’s growing middle class and represents a major opportunity for hospitality providers to adapt their offerings for the evolving Indian market.
