AWS Outage Impacts Major Applications Including Snapchat, Fortnite, and Coinbase
Amazon Web Services (AWS) faced a substantial global outage on Monday morning, causing disruption to thousands of websites and applications. Among those affected were popular platforms like Snapchat, Fortnite, Roblox, and the cryptocurrency exchange, Coinbase. AWS confirmed “significant error rates for requests” at 1:26 AM ET, marking the start of the outage.
The disruption had a broad reach, impacting various sectors. This included banking apps, gaming platforms, social media accounts, and Amazon-linked smart home devices. United Airlines reported overnight disruption to its app and website, with some internal systems also temporarily affected. Delta Airlines experienced minor flight delays as a result.
Despite Amazon’s assurance that its systems are back online, reports of problems with AWS services persist. The outage underscores the vulnerability of internet infrastructure concentrated in a few cloud regions. Experts have noted that a fault in one region can quickly impact the entire ecosystem.
