Record-Breaking UK Airport Parking Charges: Up to £189 for Four-Day Stays

UK travelers are grappling with unprecedented airport parking charges. New research from Confused.com reveals that some holidaymakers are shelling out as much as £189 for a mere four days of short-stay parking at major airports.

The study indicates that average short-stay parking costs have soared to £93.90 for a four-day trip. In contrast, long-stay options average at £59, and meet-and-greet services hover around £101.

Regional variations are strikingly evident. England’s short-stay rates are running 61% higher than Scotland’s and 17% above the UK average. Wales, unfortunately, boasts the highest long-stay rates at an average of £81, which is a staggering 63% pricier than Scotland.

The sharp rise in prices has sparked concerns about affordability for everyday holidaymakers and business travelers alike. Alvaro Iturmendi, a travel insurance expert at Confused.com, commented, “While airport parking is often convenient, the cost can be a challenge, especially during peak travel times.”

Despite the hefty costs, over half (52%) of UK travelers continue to use official airport parking. However, nearly a quarter (23%) now actively compare taxi and parking costs before finalizing their decision.

Security remains a pressing concern, with 34% of travelers anxious about potential vehicle damage and 19% fearing theft.
