Major Travel Disruptions Loom Over Europe in Early October 2025
European travelers are bracing for significant flight disruptions during the first 10 days of October 2025. Air traffic controllers and airline workers across Greece, France, Italy, and the Netherlands have announced coordinated strikes over pay disputes and working conditions.
The disruptions began with Greece’s nationwide 24-hour general strike on October 1, 2025. The strike was organized by the civil service union ADEDY. France is set to experience major disruptions from October 7-10 due to an air traffic controller strike organized by union SNCTA. Airlines like Air France are warning of widespread cancellations. Ryanair has already announced up to 700 flight cancellations affecting more than 125,000 passengers across Europe.
Italy’s aviation sector will also face disruptions on October 2-3. Strikes will affect airline crews, ground staff, and airport workers at major hubs including Milan Malpensa, Bologna, and Pisa. The strikes are primarily focused on demands for increased wages, better working conditions, and modernization of air traffic control equipment.
Airlines have implemented measures to assist affected passengers, including free rebooking options and alternative routing. However, travelers are advised to monitor flight statuses continuously and consider adjusting travel dates where possible.
