Apple Unveils Real-Time Translation AI for iPhone and AirPods
Apple has unveiled a suite of new features under the banner of Apple Intelligence, bringing real-time translation capabilities to a range of devices including iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Apple Vision Pro. The highlight of these features is the Live Translation tool, designed to bridge language barriers through seamless communication in Messages, FaceTime, and Phone apps.
With the aid of AirPods Pro 3, users can now access Live Translation for in-person conversations. This feature uses on-device processing to ensure privacy. It automatically translates responses as users type in Messages and provides live captions during FaceTime calls. For phone calls, the feature enables real-time spoken translations.
At present, Live Translation supports English, French, German, Portuguese, and Spanish. However, Apple has plans to expand language support to include Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese by the end of the year. This feature signifies a major leap in AI-powered communication tools, leveraging Apple’s new silicon and machine learning capabilities introduced with the iPhone 16 lineup.
