Major Cyberattack on Collins Aerospace Disrupts European Airports; Suspect Arrested
A significant cyberattack on Collins Aerospace’s MUSE passenger processing system is causing ongoing disruptions at several major European airports. The UK authorities have made an arrest in relation to the ransomware attack. The incident, which started on September 19, 2025, has impacted check-in, baggage processing, and boarding operations at airports including London Heathrow, Brussels, Berlin, and Dublin.
Collins Aerospace, a subsidiary of RTX with offices in Cork and Shannon, supplies crucial airport infrastructure software utilised by numerous airlines throughout Europe. The ransomware attack, identified as the HardBit variant, has taken the MUSE platform offline. This platform is instrumental in enabling airlines to share check-in and gate resources. As a result, Brussels Airport had to cancel half of its scheduled departures on Monday, while other affected airports have had to resort to manual workarounds.
The UK National Crime Agency has arrested a man in West Sussex as part of their investigation into this cybersecurity incident. This attack underscores the vulnerability of aviation infrastructure to cyber threats. Industry experts are issuing warnings about the heavy reliance on centralized technology providers, which can create systemic risks.
