Apple Watch Unveils Groundbreaking Hypertension Detection Feature
Apple has recently introduced a revolutionary hypertension detection feature for its Apple Watch Series 11 and Ultra 3. This feature, now available in over 150 countries, comes after receiving clearance from the FDA. The groundbreaking health monitoring capability utilizes the watch’s optical heart sensor to analyze blood vessel responses, thereby detecting signs of chronic high blood pressure.
The feature operates passively, continuously reviewing data over 30-day periods to identify consistent signs of hypertension. “Hypertension is the leading modifiable risk factor for heart attack, stroke, and kidney disease, impacting approximately 1.3 billion adults globally,” Apple noted in their announcement.
Users who receive hypertension notifications are advised to monitor their blood pressure for seven days using a third-party cuff and to consult with healthcare providers. This feature, which has been validated through clinical studies involving over 2,000 participants, is projected to notify over 1 million people with undiagnosed hypertension within its first year of use. This technology signifies Apple’s ongoing expansion into preventive healthcare monitoring.
