Microsoft to Remove Password Management from Authenticator App by August 2025

Microsoft has announced that it will remove password management features from its Authenticator app starting August 1, 2025, as part of its broader transition to a passwordless future.

The app’s autofill feature will stop working in July 2025, and users will no longer be able to access saved passwords within the app after August. This change aligns with Microsoft’s strategic shift toward more secure authentication methods, including passkeys, Windows Hello, and FIDO2-based login systems.

Microsoft had already disabled the ability to add new passwords to the Authenticator app as of last month. However, existing saved passwords will not be lost—they will remain accessible through users’ Microsoft accounts via the Edge browser.

The company says this move is intended to reduce security threats such as phishing and password reuse attacks. While the transition may inconvenience some users who rely on the app’s current features, passkey functionality will remain unaffected.
