OpenAI Unveils GPT-5: A Revolutionary Leap in AI, Now Accessible to All Users
OpenAI has officially launched GPT-5, its most advanced AI model to date, on August 7, 2025. This marks a significant milestone in the evolution of artificial intelligence. The new model synergizes the reasoning capabilities of OpenAI’s o-series with the speed of the GPT series, creating what CEO Sam Altman hails as the “best model in the world“.
GPT-5 offers substantial enhancements in accuracy, speed, reasoning, and problem-solving across a broad spectrum of domains. These include coding, mathematics, and healthcare. The model achieves state-of-the-art performance with a remarkable 94.6% on AIME 2025 math problems and 74.9% on SWE-bench Verified coding tasks. Notably, GPT-5 is 45% less likely to hallucinate than GPT-4o and boasts enhanced safety measures with “safe completions” that provide responses within safety constraints.
The launch coincides with ChatGPT reaching an impressive nearly 700 million weekly active users, representing almost 10% of the global population. GPT-5 is immediately available to all ChatGPT users, including those on the free tier. It is also being rolled out across Microsoft platforms such as GitHub Copilot, Microsoft 365 Copilot, and Azure AI Foundry.
