From Parachutes to Premium Travel Bags: Cirrus Aircraft’s Innovative Sustainability Initiative
Cirrus Aircraft, on August 5, 2025, launched a groundbreaking sustainability initiative. This initiative repurposes decommissioned Cirrus Airframe Parachute System (CAPS) materials into high-end travel accessories. In this venture, the company joined forces with Duluth Pack, the oldest canvas and leather bag manufacturer in America, to craft a limited collection of aviation-inspired bags.
The unique products in this collection incorporate parachute fabric from the mandatory 10-year CAPS repack cycle. This process transforms materials that would otherwise be discarded into functional luxury items. The collection features:
- Cirrus Duffel ($255)
- Logbook Briefcase ($170)
- Pilot Overnighter Bag
Each bag showcases a hand-cut parachute lining made from Kevlar, Nylon, and Vectran materials.
Every CAPS parachute spans 2,349 square feet with a 54.7-foot diameter and contains over a mile of cords. To date, the CAPS system has saved 270 lives across Cirrus aircraft operations. The bags, first available at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2025, represent a creative solution to aerospace waste while celebrating aviation heritage.
