Tiny Health Secures $33M Funding to Propel Microbiome Testing into the Mainstream
Austin, Texas-based Tiny Health, a pioneer in microbiome intelligence, has successfully closed a $33 million Series B funding round. This significant achievement brings its total funding to $46 million, reflecting the increasing demand for at-home gut and vaginal microbiome testing. The round, which was oversubscribed, was spearheaded by B Capital and saw participation from Spero Ventures, Black Opal Ventures, Pave Health Ventures, Alumni Ventures, Gaingels, among others.
Established in 2022 by CEO Cheryl Sew Hoy and Chief Science Officer Kimberley Sukhum, PhD, Tiny Health initially concentrated on microbiome testing for babies and new mothers. The company has since broadened its services to include adult gut and vaginal microbiome tests. These tests, priced at approximately $249 each, are designed for at-home use and come with personalized health recommendations. To date, the platform has served nearly 200,000 patients and assists over 6,000 healthcare practitioners.
The newly acquired capital will be utilized to further clinical research, expand its B2B platform (Powered by Tiny), and expedite the development of TinyAI — an artificial intelligence tool trained on the company’s proprietary dataset to provide personalized, science-backed guidance. In conjunction with the funding, Tiny Health announced a $5 million Microbiome Research Program to aid clinicians and researchers in further investigating the gut’s role in conditions such as IBD, menopause, and cancer care.
“We believe the gut microbiome represents one of the most significant and underexplored frontiers in human health,” stated Nick Whitehead, Senior Principal at B Capital. Tiny’s B2B revenue experienced a fourfold increase last year, indicating a robust market appetite for precision microbiome science.
