Inspiring Future Texas Pilots: EAA’s Young Eagles Program

TEXAS — October 4, 2026 — Across Texas, volunteer pilots are demonstrating the immense value of Young Eagles rallies. General Aviation News recently highlighted the efforts of EAA Chapter 1088, which gave 15 youngsters their first unforgettable flight experience, sparking a deep-seated passion for aviation. This active chapter holds rallies bi-monthly, with coordinator Ken Langley driving increased participation in the region.

Established in 1992 by the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), the Young Eagles program aims to provide free flights in general aviation aircraft to young people aged 8 to 17. The program has so far flown over 2.4 million children from 90 countries, earning it the title of the most successful aviation youth outreach initiative in history. Every flight is offered free of charge, with volunteer pilots generously donating their personal aircraft, fuel, and time.

Upon completion of a flight, each Young Eagle gains access to a wealth of aviation resources. This includes the Sporty’s Learn to Fly Course (valued at $299), a free introductory flight lesson (worth approximately $160), and up to $175 reimbursement upon passing the FAA Private Pilot Knowledge Exam. With rallies gaining momentum across the country this October — from San Antonio, Texas to Columbus, Ohio — EAA chapters nationwide are reinforcing the future of aviation, one free flight at a time.
