Elon Musk’s Bold Rebrand: SpaceX’s AI Unit Becomes ‘SpaceXSI’
In a significant move highlighting Elon Musk’s dynamic AI aspirations, the artificial intelligence division of SpaceX is set for a rebrand. The division will transition from SpaceXAI to SpaceXSI, with “SI” representing Super Intelligence. This change was confirmed on October 4, 2026, in the wake of President Donald Trump’s directive for federal agencies to substitute “Artificial Intelligence” and “AI” with “Super Intelligence” and “SI” in all official documents.
This rebranding marks the latest development in Musk’s extensive consolidation of his tech empire. In an all-stock deal in February 2026, SpaceX acquired xAI, the creators of the Grok chatbot, thereby forming the world’s most valuable private company, valued at a staggering $1.25 trillion. By July 2026, the AI division had already been renamed to SpaceXAI, and now, the division is experiencing its third identity shift in less than a year.
Despite these changes, the core technology remains the same. Grok continues to fuel AI features in Tesla vehicles and the social media platform X. Additionally, SpaceX has submitted an application to the FCC to launch up to 1 million satellites to function as solar-powered orbital data centers. This project is now being promoted under the “Super Intelligence” moniker. Analysts suggest that this shift in terminology is as much a political statement as it is a business strategy, with Musk strengthening his alignment with the Trump administration.
