OpenAI Reveals ‘Dots’ AI Agents and GPT-6.1 Sol at DevDay 2026
At the DevDay 2026 developer conference, OpenAI unveiled a plethora of new products and updates. The most notable among these are Dots, a new breed of always-on AI agents, and GPT-6.1 Sol, a cost-effective yet powerful AI model.
Dots: Autonomous AI Agents
Dots are autonomous agents powered by GPT-6 Astra that operate persistently in the cloud. They remain active even when a user’s laptop is off. Each “Dot” possesses its own cloud computer and browser, and can connect to over 4,000 apps through OpenAI’s plugin ecosystem. Users can interact with Dots via ChatGPT, Slack, Microsoft Teams, or direct voice call.
OpenAI CEO, Sam Altman, highlighted that ChatGPT now caters to 1.2 billion weekly users across 2.5 million businesses. Users have the ability to set rules and permissions for Dots, including the requirement for confirmation before executing certain sensitive actions.
GPT-6.1 Sol: High-Performance AI Model
The other major announcement was GPT-6.1 Sol. This high-performance model is designed for coding, computer usage, and professional workloads. It is priced at $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, making it approximately one-fifth the cost of GPT-6 Astra. OpenAI claims that it offers performance comparable to Astra, but at a fraction of the price. GPT-6.1 Sol is now available to API, ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu users.
Other Announcements
Other significant announcements at DevDay included ChatGPT Spaces (a shared team workspace), a new Pro 500 plan at $500/month, cloud-based Codex environments, and a ChatGPT plugin marketplace.
