Global Tourism Stalwarts Convene in Macao for Influential Forum

The crème de la crème of global tourism policymakers, business magnates, and scholars are poised to assemble in Macao, China, for the 12th iteration of the Global Tourism Economy Forum (GTEF). Scheduled from October 15 to 17, 2026, the event marks its return to its city of inception. The forum will host participants from five continents, united under the thought-provoking theme: “Crisis • Resilience • Evolution — Building a Tourism Economy for a Shared Future.”

This year’s GTEF bears immense strategic importance. The forum has been officially recognized as a crucial national strategic platform by China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism in its recently unveiled 15th Five-Year Plan for Cultural and Tourism Development. This recognition underscores the forum’s transition from a regional exchange event to a significant conduit for China’s global cultural tourism aspirations.

The 12th GTEF will concentrate on five fundamental pillars: Resilient Governance, Technology and Innovation, The New Traveller, Culture and Identity, and Sustainable Growth. The forum will delve into pioneering topics such as global cultural tourism capital allocation, China-Europe and Asia-Pacific connectivity, and international MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) synergies. In addition to formal sessions, the agenda includes business matching, cultural tourism promotions, and themed dinners, all aimed at promoting practical collaboration among global stakeholders.
