Celebrating 35 Years of Aviation and Community Heritage at the Marion Fly-In Cruise-In
The 35th Annual Marion Fly-In Cruise-In, a cherished aviation event in Indiana, was recently celebrated at the Marion Municipal Airport (KMZZ). The event’s remarkable story continues to make headlines as coverage from this milestone gathering rolls in.
This year’s theme, “35 Years of Flight, Power, and Community Pride!”, brought together aviation enthusiasts and the broader community for a grand display of vintage aircraft, warbirds, classic cars, motorcycles, military vehicles, and tractors. Attendees had the opportunity to watch aircraft take off and land from the airstrip, and helicopter rides were also available.
One of the highlights of the event was the special recognition of Ray Johnson, the founder of the Fly-In Cruise-In in 1991, who has been coordinating it ever since. Johnson was honored with membership in the Indiana General Assembly’s Circle of Corydon by State Rep. Lori Goss-Reaves, with Governor Mike Braun also involved in the ceremony.
The event’s annual pancake breakfast, which raised more than $45,000 for the community last year, has contributed an estimated $1 million or more to local organizations over its history, including the Grant County Rescue Mission. This year’s event was made possible by the efforts of more than 200 volunteers.
