India Broadens e-Visa Accessibility to 88 Gateways for Global Tourists
India’s Ministry of Home Affairs has significantly expanded its popular e-Visa programme, announcing the addition of 11 new entry points — comprising two airports and nine land border crossings. This expansion brings the country’s total approved e-Visa gateways to 88 locations. The announcement, made in August 2026, is already reshaping travel planning for millions of international visitors heading to one of the world’s most sought-after destinations.
The two newly added airports are Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) and Tirupati (Andhra Pradesh), providing e-Visa holders with direct access to central India and the renowned Tirupati pilgrimage destination. The nine new land crossings include:
- Attari (India’s only road checkpoint to Pakistan, linking Amritsar with Lahore)
- Agartala (a major gateway into Bangladesh)
- Other border posts including Gede, Ghojadanga, Haridaspur, Jaigaon, Darranga, Dawki, and Moreh
With this expansion, India’s comprehensive e-Visa network now consists of 37 airports, 38 seaports, and 13 land ports. The programme, available to nationals of 174 countries and territories, processes approximately 95% of applications within 72 hours, and roughly 78% of all visas issued by India are now electronic. Travellers are advised to verify their designated entry point is on the approved list before booking transportation.
