Samson Sky’s Switchblade Flying Car Secures $80M Investment for U.S. Production Facility
The dream of a road-and-sky vehicle is edging closer to reality. Samson Sky, the Oregon-based developer of the Switchblade Flying Car, has secured an $80 million investment from Dubai-based Matin Group to fund its first U.S. production facility. This move could finally transform the futuristic concept into a mass-market product.
Announced on September 15, 2026, the deal includes a signed Joint Investment Agreement and the formation of a joint venture aimed at accelerating commercial production. The planned facility will span 180,000 square feet. However, the company notes that an additional $20 million still needs to be raised to reach full production funding.
The Switchblade is a two-seat, hybrid-electric vehicle designed to be driven from a garage to a local airport, then transformed into an aircraft. This transformation process takes roughly three minutes at the push of a button. The company says the Switchblade is built for regional journeys of 200 to 500 miles and completed its first official flight in November 2023. It carries an estimated price tag of around $200,000.
Samson Sky reports more than 2,700 reservations from customers across all 50 U.S. states and over 50 countries, representing more than $500 million in potential future revenue. The Switchblade is classified as an experimental aircraft under FAA rules, requiring owners to build at least 51% of the vehicle themselves. This is a milestone Samson Sky plans to facilitate through its Builder Assist Center program.
