Textron’s Cessna SkyCourier Air Ambulance Prepares for Inaugural Delivery
Textron Aviation is on the cusp of achieving a significant landmark in the special-mission segment of general aviation. The first delivery of the air ambulance version of its twin-engine Cessna SkyCourier turboprop is slated to occur in the coming weeks. This news was announced by Bob Gibbs, Textron Aviation’s Vice President of Defense and Special Mission Sales, at the Air & Space Forces Association conference.
The medical SkyCourier, commissioned by Algerian operator Tassili Travail Aérien (TTA)—a subsidiary of the national oil company Sonatrach—is equipped with the cutting-edge Lifeport PLUS Powered Medevac System. This allows for swift transformation between passenger, cargo, and medevac roles. The aircraft is powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-65SC turboprop engines, comes with Garmin G1000 NXi avionics, and can reach a top cruise speed of over 200 knots with a 900 nautical-mile range. It will operate out of Algiers and Hassi Messaoud, Algeria.
In 2026, the SkyCourier made significant inroads into both military and civilian markets. Belgium’s Special Operations Forces have also chosen this platform for troop transport, logistics, and medical evacuation missions. The impending medevac delivery signifies a new era for the versatile utility turboprop in vital humanitarian and emergency services globally.
