Air Canada Unveils Largest International Expansion in Its History
Montréal, QC – September 3, 2026 — Air Canada has unveiled its most extensive intercontinental network expansion to date, announcing five new international destinations and seven new routes for Summer 2027. This groundbreaking announcement, made on September 3, 2026, introduces new connections from Canada’s three major hubs to cities across Europe and Asia.
From Vancouver, Air Canada will commence year-round service to Guangzhou, China, operated by a Boeing 787 Dreamliner. In Toronto, new routes will connect to Oslo, Norway; Shannon, Ireland; and Nice, France. Oslo and Shannon will be served by the airline’s newly acquired Airbus A321XLR. Meanwhile, from Montréal, flights will debut to Basel, Switzerland and Dubrovnik, Croatia.
For Summer 2027, Air Canada plans to operate more than 125 international routes, offering up to 169,000 seats weekly from Canada to over 85 destinations. This represents an 8% increase in available seat miles over Summer 2026. The expansion is projected to create more than 1,500 additional direct jobs by 2028 and contribute over $7 billion annually to Canada’s GDP. Mark Galardo, Air Canada’s Chief Commercial Officer, described the move as a historic milestone for the airline.
