Skyscanner’s annual data report reveals that travelers can save significantly by shifting their trips to early September, as opposed to peak July or early August bookings. “Value this season comes down to two decisions: when you go and where you go,” says Skyscanner’s travel trends expert, Laura Lindsay. She further adds that even a one-week shift can dramatically cut costs without compromising the quality of the holiday.
For those considering international travel, the data is particularly enticing. This week, Tokyo flights average at a mere $649.91, down from the summer average of $792.43, resulting in savings of over $143 per person. The top destinations for American summer travelers this year include Tokyo, London, New York, Madrid, and Barcelona.
Interestingly, 73% of Americans express interest in visiting places that none of their friends or social media followers have been to. Skyscanner’s top picks for such adventurous travelers include Aberdeen (Scotland), Trieste (Italy), Hilo (Hawaii), and Queenstown (New Zealand). These destinations offer excellent value and significantly fewer crowds than the usual hotspots.
