Admirals Club Memberships Face a 75% Price Surge by American Airlines

Frequent flyers, brace yourselves: American Airlines has rolled out one of the most dramatic airport lounge price increases in recent memory. Effective August 23, 2026, the airline overhauled its Admirals Club membership pricing, raising the standard annual membership from $850 to $1,400 — a jump of up to 75% for general members when the eliminated renewal discount is factored in.

The airline simultaneously introduced a new budget-friendly solo membership tier at $750 per year, which covers entry to approximately 50 Admirals Club locations exclusively for the cardholder — no guests and no access to partner lounges such as Qantas Clubs or Alaska Lounges. The previous household membership option has been discontinued entirely, though existing enrollments remain valid through their current term.

American justifies the increases by pointing to significant lounge improvements, including:

  • Refreshed club interiors
  • Upgraded food and beverage offerings
  • A new grab-and-go concept called Provisions by Admirals Club, currently available in Charlotte with a New York JFK location on the way

For travelers seeking the best value, the Citi / AAdvantage Executive Mastercard — whose annual fee rises to $695 — still bundles a full Admirals Club membership including guest access and partner lounge entry, making it a comparatively attractive alternative to the standalone $1,400 price tag.
