Nike Appoints Walmart Veteran Jane Ewing as CCO in Strategic Turnaround Effort
Nike has made a pivotal leadership change, appointing Jane Ewing, an experienced Walmart executive, as its new Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer (CCO). Intriguingly, this is a role that the sportswear behemoth had abolished just months earlier in December 2025.
Ewing brings a remarkable retail and global operations track record to the Swoosh. During her stint at Walmart, she held positions such as Interim CEO of Sam’s Club China, Senior Vice President of International Operations, and Senior Vice President of Sustainability. Prior to Walmart, she led one of the largest global divisions at Diageo PLC, the premium beverages titan.
Nike CEO Elliott Hill expressed that Ewing’s “experience, leadership, and global perspective will help accelerate growth across Nike Direct and wholesale,” emphasizing that her role is crucial in fortifying the ties between brand, product, and marketplace.
This appointment marks a significant shift for Hill, who had previously dissolved the CCO role in a bid to streamline management layers. The company is currently steering through a challenging turnaround, with its most recent quarterly net sales amounting to $10.97 billion — a decrease of 1% year-over-year on a reported basis and a decline of 4% on a currency-neutral basis.
As Ewing steps in to expedite one of the most closely monitored brand revivals in corporate America, Nike’s stock and strategic direction will undoubtedly be under close scrutiny.
