XPeng Secures Record-Breaking $900M Funding for its IRON Humanoid Robot

Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer, XPeng (NYSE: XPEV), has made a groundbreaking announcement about a funding round for its robotics division. The company has successfully raised over $900 million, resulting in a post-money valuation exceeding $6.3 billion. This is the most substantial single-round private capital raise in the history of China’s physical AI and embodied intelligence sector.

The funding round was spearheaded by IDG Capital. Other contributors included Gaorong Ventures, and strategic investments were made by tech behemoths Tencent and Alibaba. As per the deal’s structure, XPeng’s robotics subsidiary, soon to become a separate entity named Dogotix, will secure $600 million from external investors. An additional $200 million will come from XPeng itself, and the top executives will contribute $100 million.

This capital injection will expedite the development and mass production of XPeng’s flagship IRON humanoid robot. This highly human-like, AI-powered machine boasts 76 degrees of freedom throughout its body and 21 in each hand. XPeng anticipates that IRON will enter mass production by the end of 2026. Initial commercial deployments will take place at XPeng stores and campuses, with broader deliveries in China and overseas markets expected in 2027. This announcement places XPeng as a direct competitor to Tesla’s Optimus program in the global humanoid robot race.
