Ford Unveils ‘Fathom’ EV Truck, Priced Under $30,000 — The Most Affordable Yet
Ford Motor Company has officially unveiled its much-anticipated affordable electric pickup truck, the Fathom. With a starting price of just $28,350 (plus a $1,595 destination and delivery fee, totaling $29,945), it’s the most affordable electric vehicle Ford has ever sold and one of the most competitively priced EVs on the U.S. market.
The announcement, made on August 6, 2026, signifies a crucial turning point for the automaker. This marks their second venture into the EV truck market, following the discontinuation of the F-150 Lightning. The Fathom is the pioneer vehicle built on Ford’s new Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) platform — a framework specifically engineered to streamline production and cut costs. The manufacturing will take place at Ford’s Louisville Assembly Plant in Kentucky, utilizing a revolutionary “assembly tree” process that operates three production lines concurrently.
The five-passenger midsize truck will come standard with a host of features including:
- BlueCruise hands-free highway driving
- Bidirectional power capability
- A large high-resolution touchscreen with Apple Maps
- A digital car key
Ford anticipates that the Fathom will offer more passenger volume than a Toyota RAV4, in addition to a front trunk and a compact truck bed. The UEV platform reduces the total parts count by 20% compared to a typical Ford vehicle, and eliminates 40% of process workstations on the factory floor.
Pre-orders are set to open in early 2027, with customer deliveries expected in autumn 2027. Ford has pledged approximately $5 billion in investment to bolster production across Louisville and BlueOval Battery Park in Michigan.
