Aleniglipron: A Game-Changing Weight-Loss Pill Outperforming Ozempic Without Needles
A groundbreaking clinical trial has put the weight-loss world on notice: an experimental once-daily oral pill called aleniglipron, developed by Structure Therapeutics (NASDAQ: GPCR), has demonstrated weight loss of up to 15% of body weight in a Phase 2 trial — rivaling the results of leading injectable drugs like Wegovy and Ozempic, but without a single needle.
Published in Nature Medicine and highlighted again this week by ScienceDaily (August 10, 2026), the Phase 2b trial enrolled 230 adults with overweight or obesity. Participants taking the highest dose of aleniglipron (120 mg) lost a mean of 12.1% of body weight over 36 weeks, compared to just 0.5% in the placebo group. Longer-term data from open-label extensions showed reductions reaching up to 15.3% with no weight plateau by week 56.
Unlike peptide-based GLP-1 drugs such as semaglutide (Ozempic/Wegovy), aleniglipron is a small-molecule drug taken by mouth — and can be taken with or without food, making it far more accessible. “The difference with aleniglipron is it’s a small molecule, meaning it’s chemically made and can be taken with or without food,” explained Dr. Robert Kushner, a co-author of the study and professor at Northwestern University.
Structure Therapeutics has confirmed it plans to advance aleniglipron into Phase 3 clinical development in the second half of 2026. Analysts have called the data “best-in-class” among oral GLP-1 candidates. The drug is not yet approved or commercially available.
