Samsung Galaxy Watch 9 Debuts Today, Featuring a Major Chip Upgrade
Samsung’s latest smartwatch, the Galaxy Watch 9, officially hit the market today, August 7, 2026. This release coincides with the launch of the company’s flagship Galaxy Z Fold 8 foldable phone. The Watch 9, unveiled at Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event in London on July 22, represents a significant advancement in the Korean tech giant’s wearable lineup.
The most significant change in the Watch 9 is the transition from Samsung’s own Exynos chip to the Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear Elite processor. This processor, built on a 3nm process node, makes the Watch 9 and Watch Ultra 2 the first Galaxy Watch models to utilize this new platform. This upgrade delivers enhanced performance and efficiency, coupled with a larger battery that offers a 20% capacity boost over its predecessor in the 40mm model.
The Galaxy Watch 9 comes with Wear OS 7 and One UI 9 Watch, boasting a cleaner interface and Samsung’s expanded health suite. This suite includes Heart Health Score, Fitness Index, Daily Cardio Load, and an AI-driven Sleep Apnea detector, all available without a subscription. Samsung has also pledged to provide five major OS updates and five years of security support for the device.
The Watch 9 is available in 40mm and 44mm sizes, with color options including Cream, Graphite, and Silver. The 40mm Bluetooth model starts at $379.99, while LTE versions are priced $50 higher. The premium Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 is available at $699.99.
