Silver Soars Beyond $62 Per Ounce Amid Hormuz Optimism & Interest Rate Cut Expectations

Silver prices are making a remarkable leap this week, breaking through key resistance levels. Futures have surged nearly 5% to trade above $62.46 per troy ounce as of August 5, 2026. This marks the metal’s highest price point since early July and a fresh monthly high. September Silver futures (SI=F) reached as high as $62.27 in early trading. This surge is fueled by a powerful blend of geopolitical de-escalation and growing anticipation of interest rate cuts.

The rally received a significant boost from optimism surrounding potential progress on reopening the Strait of Hormuz. This critical global shipping chokepoint has been a source of oil price volatility and inflation concerns for months. President Trump hinted that a deal could be imminent, lifting risk assets and precious metals alike. As crude oil prices eased, inflation pressure reduced, further strengthening the case for Federal Reserve rate cuts.

Compared to a year ago, silver has seen an increase of more than 62%. According to trading data, at its 2026 peak, it recorded a staggering 173% year-over-year gain. The long-term demand fundamentals remain strong, driven by industrial applications in solar panels, electric vehicles, and AI hardware manufacturing. These sectors are all vying for a tightening global supply.

Meanwhile, gold was trading at approximately $4,095 per ounce. Analysts are keeping a close eye on both metals as macro conditions continue to shift.
