Qualcomm Increases Snapdragon Chip Prices — Expect to Pay More for Your Next Phone
For consumers planning their next smartphone upgrade, be ready to shell out more. Qualcomm has officially announced a double-digit percentage price hike across its entire Snapdragon chip lineup, effective from September 1, 2026. This increase will have a significant impact on the global consumer electronics market.
In the company’s fiscal Q3 2026 earnings call, CEO Cristiano Amon was straightforward: “Costs have risen, and so will prices.” The company attributes this to a general increase in input costs across wafer fabrication, assembly, testing, advanced packaging, and memory — costs that the company can no longer bear internally.
The main cause of this increase is an industry-wide semiconductor and memory shortage, largely driven by the massive allocation of foundry capacity towards AI infrastructure. According to industry analysts at TrendForce, LPDDR5X mobile memory prices surged between 78–83% in Q2 2026 alone. Consequently, major Snapdragon customers — including Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus, and OPPO — will face higher component bills, costs that are likely to be passed on to consumers.
Flagship Android phones launching in late 2026 and 2027 are expected to bear the brunt of the increase. Samsung has already increased prices on its Galaxy Z8 foldable lineup, and the upcoming Pixel 11 series from Google is also expected to launch at higher price points.
