Unilever Considers $4B Acquisition of Thorne in Wellness Expansion
Beauty and consumer goods giant, Unilever, is reportedly considering an acquisition of the science-driven U.S. dietary supplements brand, Thorne. This potential deal could value Thorne at up to $4 billion, as reported by the Financial Times. This move signifies a strategic deepening of Unilever’s focus on premium health and beauty brands under the leadership of CEO Fernando Fernandez, who assumed the position in March 2025.
Established in 1984 and based in Summerville, South Carolina, Thorne offers a wide range of science-backed nutritional supplements. These include magnesium, omega-3s, and powdered wellness beverages. The company was bought by LVMH-backed private equity firm L Catterton for $680 million in 2023. Since then, Thorne has experienced substantial growth, with a compounded annual revenue growth surpassing 30% and projected revenues of approximately $650 million in 2026.
Unilever is reportedly one of several potential buyers, with consumer healthcare group Haleon also rumored to be interested in the deal. However, no formal offer has been announced, and both Unilever and L Catterton have declined to comment.
If successful, the acquisition would incorporate Thorne into Unilever’s expanding wellness portfolio. This portfolio already features brands such as Liquid I.V., Nutrafol, Olly, SmartyPants, and Grüns. This move further reflects the growing consumer trend of “beauty from within,” where supplements and ingestibles are increasingly recognized as essential for skin health and overall wellbeing.
