Legend of the Seas: Royal Caribbean’s Iconic Vessel Sails the Mediterranean
Royal Caribbean International’s newest and largest ship, Legend of the Seas, has embarked on its historic journey through Europe’s most iconic coastal destinations. The maiden voyage, which launched on July 4, 2026, marks the first time an Icon Class vessel has sailed in European waters.
The 250,800-gross-ton megaship, the third in Royal Caribbean’s record-setting Icon Class fleet, is operating seven-night Western Mediterranean itineraries. The ship departs from Civitavecchia (Rome) and Barcelona throughout the summer season.
With a capacity to carry up to 5,610 guests at double occupancy and up to 7,600 at full capacity, the ship is a floating city. It is staffed by 2,350 crew members and boasts 28 dining options, the largest waterpark at sea, and new entertainment experiences. These include the Hollywoodland Supper Club and Royal Railway – Legend Station, a five-course immersive dining journey. The ship’s ports of call include Naples, Palma de Mallorca, La Spezia, and Marseille.
Built at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Turku, Finland, and delivered to Royal Caribbean on June 10, 2026, Legend of the Seas is also a pioneer in environmental sustainability. It is the cruise line’s fourth ship powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), significantly reducing sulfur oxide and carbon dioxide emissions.
After its European summer season concludes in October, the ship will cross the Atlantic and homeport in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Caribbean sailings are set to begin in November 2026.
