Garmin Pilot App Update: Turbulence Layer and Extended Weather Forecast

Garmin has recently announced a significant update to its widely used Garmin Pilot app. This update, released on June 16, 2026, brings two powerful new features to the table, aimed at enhancing the safety and awareness of general aviation pilots. The newly introduced Daily Weather feature is now accessible on Apple mobile devices, a feature previously only available on Garmin Pilot Web. Additionally, a brand-new turbulence weather overlay has been added, available on both mobile and web platforms.

The Daily Weather feature empowers pilots with the ability to view weather forecasts up to six days in advance, providing an hourly breakdown for each day. This feature presents a visual timeline that color-codes expected VFR, MVFR, IFR, and LIFR conditions, enabling pilots to swiftly identify the most favorable flying window. The newly added turbulence layer overlays forecasted turbulence directly onto the flight map, allowing pilots to identify potential rough air along their planned route before they even take off.

Currently, turbulence forecast coverage is available in the United States from the surface to 45,000 feet MSL (FL450). Plans are in place to extend this coverage globally from 11,000 feet MSL to FL450. Furthermore, iOS users of Database Concierge will benefit from a redesigned interface that simplifies navigation database management and makes handling multiple aircraft easier. Garmin has confirmed that this update is now available as a free software update for existing Garmin Pilot users.
