CVS Health Introduces Groundbreaking GLP-1 Weight Management Support Program

In an ambitious bid to gain a competitive edge in the thriving weight-loss medication industry, CVS Health (NYSE: CVS) has unveiled a comprehensive, nationwide GLP-1 support program. This program extends across its 9,000-plus CVS Pharmacy locations and includes MinuteClinic® services, virtually accessible in nearly all U.S. states.

The innovative initiative features a $49 MinuteClinic virtual visit. This service connects eligible adults with licensed clinicians who can assess and, where clinically suitable, prescribe GLP-1 therapy for weight management. This approach makes access to treatment quicker and more affordable than ever before. Additionally, the program provides enhanced pharmacy support to assist patients in accessing these treatments and maintaining them long-term.

Addressing the cost barrier directly, CVS Pharmacy will start participating in the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Medicare GLP-1 Bridge program from July 1, 2026. This initiative, running until December 31, 2027, allows eligible Medicare beneficiaries to access certain GLP-1 medications for just $50 per month. CVS Caremark also announced the reintroduction of Zepbound® (tirzepatide) as a preferred option on commercial formularies from October 1, 2026. The new-to-market block on Foundayo™ (orforglipron), a novel oral GLP-1 therapy, has been lifted effective June 1, 2026.

Bank of America analyst Allen Lutz reacted positively to the news, increasing his price target on CVS to $110 from $100. He noted that retail pharmacies have been slow to adapt to the rapid rise of online pharmacies in the GLP-1 space.
