EVA Air to Inaugurate First Direct Flight from Taipei to Washington D.C.
EVA Air, the leading independent carrier of Taiwan, is set to redefine the aviation landscape on June 26, 2026. The airline will be launching the first-ever nonstop service between Taipei Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) and Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD). This landmark event will revolutionize US–Taiwan connectivity, benefiting thousands of travelers.
The new route will be operational four times a week, utilizing the fuel-efficient Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. The aircraft will be configured in three premium classes:
- Royal Laurel Business Class with 26 lie-flat seats
- A new fourth-generation Premium Economy class with 28 seats, offering the industry’s largest seat pitch
- 224 standard economy seats
This approximately 7,849-mile flight will provide a direct connection from the U.S. capital to Asia. It will eliminate the need for over 40,000 annual passengers to transit via West Coast connections in Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Seattle.
The route will be EVA Air’s 10th North American gateway, increasing the airline’s total weekly North American flights to 98. This makes it the largest transpacific network from Taiwan. EVA Air President Clay Sun described North America as “a long-standing key strategic market”. Officials from the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority highlighted that the flight is projected to contribute more than $61 million annually to the economic impact of the U.S. National Capital region.
Thanks to its Star Alliance membership and collaborations with United Airlines, Air Canada, and others, EVA Air will provide onward connections to over 200 destinations across the Americas. Tickets are now available for purchase at evaair.com.
