Anthropic Races Against OpenAI Towards a Trillion-Dollar IPO Debut
Anthropic, the artificial intelligence company behind the popular Claude chatbot, confidentially filed for an initial public offering with the Securities and Exchange Commission on June 1, 2026. This move could potentially set up one of the largest tech IPOs in history.
The filing comes hot on the heels of Anthropic’s successful $65 billion Series H funding round, which catapulted the company’s valuation to $965 billion. This surpassed rival OpenAI’s $852 billion valuation from March, placing Anthropic in a favorable position in the race to reach public markets. Both companies, along with SpaceX’s highly anticipated $2 trillion IPO, are expected to debut later this year.
Anthropic’s growth trajectory has been nothing short of explosive. The company reported a revenue run-rate of $47 billion in May 2026, a significant leap from just $10 billion at the end of 2025. Anthropic was founded in 2021 by former OpenAI employees who parted ways due to concerns about the company’s direction.
Analysts at Wedbush Securities have dubbed the filing as “an opening of the floodgates for the IPO market“, which has been relatively dormant for a few years. The confidential filing allows Anthropic to prepare for a public offering without immediately disclosing detailed financial information. If the company debuts at a $1 trillion valuation, it would instantly become one of the most highly valued companies in the world.
