Spirit Airlines Introduces New Nonstop Route from Macon to Fort Lauderdale

Spirit Airlines revealed on July 17, 2025, its plans to initiate a new nonstop service from Middle Georgia Regional Airport in Macon to Fort Lauderdale, starting from October 16, 2025. This announcement signifies the first-ever direct flights between these cities and is a testament to Spirit’s strategic alliance with regional carrier Contour Airlines to cater to underserved markets.

The budget-friendly airline will operate bi-weekly flights on Thursdays and Sundays, utilizing Airbus A320-family aircraft. The introductory fares are set to begin at a mere $49.99 one-way, providing substantial savings for Central Georgia travelers who previously had to travel 82 miles to Atlanta’s bustling Hartsfield-Jackson Airport. This new route offers direct access to South Florida and convenient one-stop connections to various destinations across the United States, Latin America, and the Caribbean via Spirit’s extensive network.

Middle Georgia Regional Airport is set to become Spirit’s third destination in Georgia, joining Atlanta (served since 2006) and the forthcoming Savannah service, which is due to launch on August 14, 2025. Airport officials anticipate that the new service will aid in achieving their target of 30,000 annual passengers, a significant increase from the current 15,000. Doug Faour, Macon-Bibb County Aviation Director, highlighted that South Florida has consistently been a popular destination among travelers in the region.
